In 1949, Adidas was established in Herzogenaurach, Germany. Adolf “Adi” Dassler, the company’s founder, coined the name “Adidas” and trademarked the brand’s three-stripe emblem in the same year. Adidas first focused on producing high-performance footwear for football players. Later, it expanded into selling shoes and equipment for other sports, and by the 1980s, its items had become extremely popular as streetwear. With the publication of Run DMC’s “My Adidas” in 1986, Adidas became the first sneaker to be featured in a hip-hop song; this was a watershed moment in the crossover between sportswear brands and popular music. Adidas now sells sports-inspired streetwear and footwear in addition to footwear designed exclusively for professional and amateur athletes. Limited-edition designs are also made in partnership with fashion designers in some cases. The Adidas personal care brand, which is currently owned by Coty, Inc., has created over 60 perfumes as well as scented body items. Its scents have titles like Action, Move, Team Force, Adventure, and Champions League that highlight the company’s background as a pioneer of athletics apparel. They’re usually light and fresh-smelling, and they’re aimed at men and women who lead active lives.
